Taking things for granted?

Sometimes, it seems as if we walk through life not realizing all the wonderful joys that we are experiencing on a daily basis. One thing that I recognized this past year, is that you cannot take things for granted. We cannot pretend that everything that is given to us, or the people that we live with, will always be there! Even when we get used to something to the point where it becomes “usual,” we shouldn’t expect to always be able to enjoy it. People change and friends oftentimes go separate ways in life. You will only meet them again if it’s God’s plan. Jobs that seemed to be secure for years all of a sudden are lost. People get sick or into an accident and unexpectedly pass away. But it’s also the little things that we need to be reminded off that can come and go. 2009 had been an emotional year for me. Now, I pay attention when good things happen to me so that I can appreciate them more. It can be something as simple as a good laugh that makes you cry. It can be a delicious supper that you normally wouldn’t be able to afford. It’s a song that plays on the radio that makes you sing and cheers you up. It could also be a random thought that reminds you of a fun and wonderful time. Or it could be a gesture, a hug, a kiss, or a nice card in the mail that makes you smile.

I don’t want to take things for granted anymore. Every moment in life is precious and counts!
