I’d say the big shock is over and it’s time to focus on what needs to be done. At NPC, Lauren, Heidi and I have made some great progress in the collection of donations for the team that is leaving on February 19th. On 2/6/10, we are having our Haiti Packing Party at church where we will sort and pack everything we have been so generously given by our community, family and friends.
I, personally, have calmed down about the events a little as well. I try to concentrate on what can I do now and how I want to help in the future. My idea to spend one month in Haiti later this year is becoming more and more steadfast. My mom is very supportive and there have been some people and websites I found helpful in making my decision to go. One website has been very intriguing to me, called Global Volunteer Network. This organization doesn’t only offer volunteer opportunities in Haiti, but around the world. Some other projects I found interesting included a 3 month stay in Rwanda working with HIV/Aids affected people or participate in a Gender-based violence program.
I don’t know what I was thinking when I did this, but I signed up for the Chicago Shamrock Shuffle 8k to run with World Vision for Haiti. Of course I was thinking that I will do good for Haiti, duh! But 5 miles?? Ugh! Not sure I’m ready for that, haha. I am excited though to be part of the World Vision Team. I created my own website that people can visit and make a donation. I am above thrilled at the amount I’ve raised as of today (in only three days) on my website: http://twv.convio.net/goto/helpmehelphaiti ($285 as of 2/3/10 @ 10:45PM).
But the world
Needs love
It's love
Sweet love
It's the only thing
That it's just too little of...
